William and Kate first kiss as a married couple

Classically beautiful, demure, and understated are all words which were used to describe our future Queen when I asked friends, family, and colleagues of their opinion of Kate Middleton, and, exactly the same words could be used to describe her beautiful wedding gown today. Staying true to herself, her dress (an Alexander McQueen gown designed by Sarah Burton) was absolutely exquisite, and reminiscent of the dress worn by Grace Kelly when she married Prince Rainier of Monaco. Kate looked regal as she glided down the aisle towards a dashing Prince William in his Uniform of the Irish Guards, of which he is Colonel in Chief.

Harry also looked striking in his Uniform of the Blues and Royals, and the two Princes had ‘cut dashing figures’ together earlier in the day on their way to the Abbey sitting side by side in their car.

After much speculation as to the outfit choice of the Mother of the Bride, Carole Middleton wore an outfit by Catherine Walker, in a stone colour, and looked fabulous. (Interestingly, Catherine Walker was one of Princess Diana’s favourite designers.)

Pippa Middleton also looked stunning, in a fitted dress, with a fishtail skirt. (Both sisters have tiny waists, which their dresses greatly accentuated.)

The splendour of the interior of Westminster Abbey, combined with the beauty of Kate’s gown, and the colourful Uniform’s of the Princes, (plus the glamour of the outfits in the congregation – Victoria Beckham, and Tara Palmer-Tomkinson standing out in the style stakes particularly), rendered the service slightly overwhelming. Certainly all about me had tears in their eyes! One wonders how overwhelmed the congregation must have felt!

The crowd went absolutely wild as the couple left Westminster Abbey and headed back to Buckingham Palace in an open carriage, with hundreds of thousands of people clapping and cheering when William and Kate came out onto the balcony for ‘that’ kiss.

What joy this wedding has brought to us all – and what a great success this day has been.
